PLAINS TWP. — It was a media event where politicians and their staff far outnumbered media, but Republican U.S. Reps. Charlie Dent and Tom Marino were undaunted following a visit at the VA Medical Center.

The pair shared their broad idea for improving medical service to veterans following past problems in access and treatment at some centers, most notably one in Arizona: Broader access to private-sector doctors and services when appropriate, and better communication between the Department of Defense and the Veteran’s Administration medical facilities

Dent, who represents parts of the Lehigh Valley and Lebanon, Berks and Dauphin counties, is the new chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs.
