WASHINGTON — On the first day of his third term in office, U.S. Rep. Tom Marino introduced a bill designed to strip previously authorized funds the Department of Homeland Security may use to carry out President Obama’s recent presidential memorandum on modernizing and streamlining the U.S immigrant visa system for the 21st century.

The Defund Amnesty Act mirrors Marino’s amendment to the so-called “cromnibus” legislative package in the 113th Congress. Marino’s amendment failed during the last legislative session but it now resides in the House as a stand-alone bill for consideration.

“The new Republican majority is well positioned to demonstrate just how serious we are at reigning in this president’s executive overreach,” Marino said on the first day of the 114th Congress. “His executive order, or memorandum, is the most egregious example.

“When I think of our Founding Fathers and their intention for the executive branch, Barack Obama is the exact antithesis of that vision. As I have said before, the United States Constitution gives Congress the power to regulate the naturalization processes and provide for the defense of our borders.
