WYSOX TOWNSHIP – Speaking in Wysox Township on Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Tom Marino said the Affordable Care Act is “a disaster” that is causing problems for hospitals, employees, and others.

“The calls I’m getting in my office are from people who are losing their insurance or who cannot afford insurance,” Marino said in a speech to the Central Bradford County Chamber of Commerce. “Hospitals are … laying people off and trying to figure out every which way they can to cut their costs (because their government) reimbursements are going down” as a result of the Affordable Care Act, he said.

The Affordable Care Act, the health insurance reform law passed under President Obama, is going to negatively impact older employees of small businesses, because virtually the only factors that will come into play when determining the size of small businesses’ health insurance premiums are the age of employees, whether they use tobacco, and their place of residence, Marino said.
